Church Road was the scene of a dramatic Crystal Palace crash and residents are worried it will take a fatality to make the road safer
A car overturned in a startling late-night collision, raising concerns that someone may be killed on a residential road.
On a street where locals are “surprised that there hasn’t been a fatality already,” a woman expressed her concern for her children’s safety.
Concerns have been raised by families in Crystal Palace that it will take a tragic loss of life to make the scene of the dramatic crash safe.
The car was overturned in an apparent crash on Church Road in Crystal Palace in the early hours of the morning on Sunday (July 1).
The car flipped over at about 2.40am on the residential road. Paramedics rushed to the scene where the driver of the overturned car was treated.
Mum Ellesse Harper, who lives near the scene of the smash, said: “I don’t think it is safe at all.
“I hear cars zooming past late at night, but they are no better during the day.
“Late last week there was a car that had crashed on the pavement on the All Saint’s Church end of Church Road for two or three days.
“I think it’s disgusting that someone has to be fatally injured before anything will be done.
“I just hope and pray it isn’t one of my children or myself.”
These fears have been echoed by another local resident who heard the sound of the crash in the early hours.
She is surprised there has not been a more serious accident to date.
She said: “I really think someone will die as a result of a crash.
“Every day there are cars driving really fast down that road.
“I work from home so I hear it all day. I’m surprised that there hasn’t been a fatality already.
“As it was 2am I was in bed when the incident occurred outside our house.”
Paramedics offered treatment on the scene after rushing to the site of the crash on Church Road in the early hours.
The wounded driver was not taken to hospital.
A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called at 2:42am on July 1 to Church Road, Crystal Palace, to reports of a road traffic collision.
“We sent an incident response officer, a single responder in a car and an ambulance crew to the scene.
“We treated one person at the scene but did not take them to hospital.
