In a heartwarming act of generosity, Purdue Boilermakers basketball star Zach Edey has invested $3.6 million to transform a historic house near campus into a state-of-the-art shelter for homeless youth. The initiative, which has been in quiet development for months, was officially announced today and is already being hailed as a landmark contribution to the community.

The shelter, named “Edey’s Haven”, will provide emergency housing, mental health support, educational resources, and job training to at-risk youth in the Greater Lafayette area. The facility is expected to open its doors later this year.

“I’ve been given so much through basketball, Purdue, and this community,” said Edey in a press conference. “This is my way of giving back, of making sure kids who feel forgotten have a place to feel safe, supported, and seen.”

Edey, who recently completed a standout college career and declared for the NBA Draft, has long been involved in community outreach but this marks his most significant philanthropic effort to date. The $3.6 million investment covers the full cost of acquiring and renovating the historic property, along with operational funding for its first two years.

Local leaders, Purdue officials, and youth advocacy organizations have praised the initiative, calling it a “game-changer” for homeless youth in the area.

“This shelter will not only provide a roof over their heads but a foundation for a better future,” said Mayor John Dennis.
