BREAKING NEWS: The Hinton Timberwolves Junior Hockey ID Camp located in Hinton, AB is on fire due…

Hinton, AB — A devastating fire broke out early Saturday morning at the Hinton Timberwolves Junior Hockey Identification (ID) Camp, located at the Dr. Duncan Murray Recreation Centre in Hinton, Alberta. Authorities report that the blaze started around 5:45 AM, shortly before the players and staff were due to begin morning drills.

Eyewitnesses said the fire appeared to originate near the equipment storage area and rapidly spread through the facility. Emergency services were quick to respond, with fire crews from both Hinton and surrounding communities rushing to contain the flames.

As of now, no fatalities have been reported, but several young athletes were treated for smoke inhalation and minor injuries. Five have been taken to a local hospital for observation, and all are currently in stable condition.

“The safety of our players and staff is our top priority,” said Coach Mark Halvorsen, head coach of the Timberwolves. “We are thankful for the swift action of the emergency responders. It’s heartbreaking to see this happen during what was supposed to be an exciting weekend for these young players chasing their hockey dreams.”

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Early speculation points to a possible electrical fault in one of the older parts of the building, but officials have not confirmed any details.

The camp, which draws dozens of aspiring junior hockey players from across Canada and the United States, has been a vital part of the Timberwolves’ recruitment and development process. This weekend’s event was set to host more than 60 prospects vying for a spot on the upcoming season’s roster.

Parents and family members of the attendees have been notified, and arrangements are being made to transport the players back to their homes while authorities secure the site and assess damages. The Recreation Centre is temporarily closed to the public.

Mayor Marcel Michaels of Hinton addressed the media this morning: “This is a difficult day for our town, but we are a strong community. We will support the Timberwolves and everyone affected by this incident. We’re grateful that lives were spared and will focus on rebuilding and recovering.”

The Hinton Timberwolves organization has announced that it will provide counseling and support for all affected players and staff. A community fundraiser and emergency fund have already been launched by local residents and supporters of the team.
