Salt Lake City, May 14, 2025 — A massive fire broke out this evening at the largest restaurant in Salt Lake, devastating the popular dining and entertainment venue and resulting in multiple fatalities, including several local sports players.
The blaze reportedly began around 7:30 PM at The Grand Flame, a sprawling three-story restaurant known for its luxurious décor and popularity among celebrities and athletes. Eyewitnesses described a sudden explosion, followed by flames quickly spreading throughout the building.
Emergency services responded within minutes, with over a dozen fire trucks and rescue units battling the inferno for hours. Despite their efforts, the fire claimed at least five lives, including three local athletes who were dining together in a private hall on the second floor.
Authorities have not officially released the identities of the victims, but sources confirm that members of Salt Lake’s local soccer and basketball teams were present during the incident. “It’s an unspeakable tragedy,” said Fire Chief Jordan Hayes. “The fire spread rapidly due to what appears to be a gas leak in the kitchen area. We are conducting a full investigation.”
Dozens of others were injured in the chaos, with some still missing as rescue crews continue to search the charred remains of the building. Hospitals across the city are treating victims for burns, smoke inhalation, and other injuries.
The Grand Flame, a landmark venue in the city’s culinary and nightlife scene, was hosting a private celebration for a recent local sports tournament victory, making the timing of the tragedy especially heartbreaking.
