In a remarkable display of compassion and commitment to community, Boston Celtics forward Jayson Tatum has announced a $7.5 million personal investment to convert a historic mansion in the Roxbury neighborhood into a state-of-the-art shelter and resource center for homeless youth.

The facility, set to open in early 2026, will be named The Tatum House, offering temporary housing, educational support, mental health counseling, and job placement services for young people experiencing homelessness. Tatum, 27, said the project is a reflection of his upbringing and a desire to “give back in a way that truly changes lives.”

“This city has given me everything,” Tatum said in a press release. “Now it’s time for me to give something meaningful back—something that creates safety, opportunity, and hope for kids who need it most.”

City officials praised the move, calling it a “transformational act of generosity.” Mayor Michelle Wu noted that the shelter could serve as a model for public-private partnerships addressing youth homelessness nationwide
