In a remarkable display of generosity and social commitment, Collingwood Football Club’s young sensation Nick Daicos has announced a $7.5 million personal investment to convert a historic Melbourne property into a state-of-the-art shelter for homeless youth.
The 21-year-old AFL Rising Star is using his growing platform not only to make waves on the field, but now to drive real change off it. The shelter, to be named “Daicos House,” will provide safe accommodation, mental health services, education support, and job readiness programs for at-risk young Australians.
“I’ve been incredibly fortunate in my life and career, and I want to use that privilege to make a lasting impact,” Daicos said in a press conference outside the property in Fitzroy North. “Every young person deserves a safe place to call home and a chance to build a better future.”
The initiative is set to partner with several non-profit organizations, including The Lighthouse Foundation and Frontyard Youth Services, to ensure comprehensive care and support for residents.
AFL CEO Andrew Dillon praised the move, calling it “a game-changing moment in the intersection between sport and social responsibility.”
Construction is set to begin later this year, with doors expected to open in early 2026.
