In a stunning and heartfelt act of generosity, Collingwood Football Club superstar Nick Daicos has announced he is donating the entirety of his $25 million in recent bonuses and sponsorship deals to a range of charities, with a focus on homelessness, child hunger, and veteran support.
The 22-year-old AFL sensation made the announcement earlier today in a press conference held at Collingwood’s AIA Centre, where he was visibly emotional as he addressed the media.
“There are millions of people struggling every day—families without homes, kids without food, veterans without support,” Daicos said. “If I can be a small part of the solution, then that’s more important to me than any endorsement or paycheck.”
The $25 million sum, amassed through performance bonuses, personal endorsements, and brand partnerships over the past 18 months, will be distributed across several Australian charities including The Salvation Army, Foodbank Australia, the RSL, and smaller grassroots organisations focused on supporting homeless youth and domestic violence survivors.
This move has sent shockwaves through both the sports and philanthropic communities, with fans, fellow athletes, and public figures flooding social media with praise for the young midfielder’s selfless decision.
Collingwood president Jeff Browne commended Daicos, stating, “Nick has always led by example on the field, but today he’s shown what true leadership looks like off the field. We couldn’t be prouder to have him as part of the Collingwood family.”
Daicos, who is widely regarded as one of the most talented players of his generation, said the decision was inspired by recent off-season travels and volunteering efforts where he witnessed first-hand the severity of the housing and food crisis affecting Australians.
“I met a young girl in Perth living in her car with her mum. That stayed with me. No child should grow up like that—not here, not anywhere,” he said.
While many professional athletes have made charitable contributions in the past, Daicos’ full donation of such a large figure is unprecedented in Australian sport.
When asked what’s next, Daicos smiled and said, “Footy, family, and making a difference—on and off the field.”
