defenseman Miro Heiskanen has announced a $7.5 million personal investment to convert a historic Oak Cliff estate into a state-of-the-art shelter for homeless youth.
The NHL All-Star, known for his quiet demeanor and elite skills on the ice, revealed plans for the “Heiskanen Haven” — a facility that will provide housing, mental health support, educational programs, and job training for at-risk youth ages 14–21. The shelter, expected to open in early 2026, will have space for over 50 residents and feature a community garden, computer lab, and art therapy rooms.
“This city has given me so much, and it’s time for me to give back in a meaningful way,” said Heiskanen at a press conference alongside Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson and representatives from local non-profit partners. “No young person should have to sleep on the streets or feel forgotten.”
The move has sparked widespread praise across the sports world and social media, with fans and community leaders applauding the 25-year-old Finnish defenseman for using his platform for change.
