In a shocking turn of events, Boston Celtics Head Coach Joe Mazzulla has officially resigned from his position earlier today, citing personal reasons and “a need to focus on long-term well-being and family priorities.”

Mazzulla, who took over the team on February 16, 2023, becoming the 19th head coach in Celtics history, led the team through a critical transitional period and was widely respected for his leadership and tactical acumen. Under his tenure, the Celtics reached the playoffs consecutively and maintained one of the league’s best defensive ratings.

In a written statement submitted to the front office and shared with the media, Mazzulla expressed deep gratitude to the Celtics organization, players, and fans:

“It has been the honor of a lifetime to lead this team. After careful reflection, I have decided to step away to focus on areas of my life that require my full attention. I leave with nothing but pride for what we accomplished together.”

Celtics President of Basketball Operations Brad Stevens said the organization respects Mazzulla’s decision and will begin the search for a new head coach immediately.

Assistant Coach Charles Lee is expected to serve as interim head coach while the team explores permanent options.
