Ford Field was electric today as former New Orleans Saints quarterback and NFL legend Drew Brees made a stunning return to the football world — not as a player, but as a senior coaching advisor for his former team.
Fans and players alike were in awe as Brees, who led the Saints to a Super Bowl victory and holds multiple league records, stepped onto the field in Saints gear once again. Though the Saints were in Detroit for an offseason joint practice session, it quickly became clear that this was no ordinary day.
“I’ve always felt like I had more to give to the game,” Brees said in a brief press conference. “Coming back in this capacity, I’m excited to mentor, inspire, and help lead this new generation of Saints talent.”
While specifics of his role are still developing, sources close to the team say Brees will work closely with the quarterbacks and offensive unit, sharing the wealth of experience from his two-decade-long NFL career.
