In a powerful display of compassion and commitment to his adopted community, Los Angeles Dodgers superstar Shohei Ohtani has invested $7.5 million of his own funds to convert a historic Los Angeles mansion into a state-of-the-art shelter for homeless youth.

The initiative, named “Ohtani House of Hope,” will provide housing, meals, education support, and mental health services for young people experiencing homelessness in the greater L.A. area. The project is expected to open its doors by early 2026 and will accommodate up to 60 youth at a time.

“This city has embraced me, and I want to give back in a meaningful way,” Ohtani said in a statement. “Every young person deserves a chance at a better future.”

Community leaders and homelessness advocates are praising the move as “transformational,” with Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass calling it “a deeply human and inspiring act that reminds us of the power of individual action.”
