Colorado Avalanche head coach Jared Bednar was visibly stunned today following the release of a scathing NHL report authored by former NHL head coach Maurice Filion. The report, which has quickly gained traction across the hockey world, outlines previously undisclosed allegations and harsh criticisms related to player management, team dynamics, and franchise decisions affecting multiple organizations — including the Avalanche.
Coach Bednar, addressing the media during a hastily arranged press conference at Ball Arena, expressed disbelief at several claims made in the document.
“I have the utmost respect for Coach Filion and everything he’s contributed to the game, but I’m shocked by the tone and content of this report,” Bednar said. “Some of the statements are just completely out of line with what we’ve built here in Colorado.”
While the full contents of the report remain under review by league officials, early leaks suggest that Filion took issue with what he described as a “decline in foundational coaching values” across several NHL franchises, singling out the Avalanche’s “over-reliance on analytics” and “lack of leadership accountability.”
The Avalanche organization has not yet issued an official statement, but sources close to the team indicate that Bednar is preparing a formal response to be delivered directly to NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman.
