Chicago, IL — The Chicago White Sox have suffered a major blow as their star center fielder, Luis Robert Jr., was injured earlier today during a game against the Cleveland Guardians. The incident occurred in the bottom of the third inning when Robert made a full-speed diving attempt to catch a deep fly ball in center field.
Witnesses at Guaranteed Rate Field reported that Robert appeared to land awkwardly on his right shoulder after the dive and remained on the ground for several minutes. Team trainers and medical staff rushed onto the field as the crowd fell silent. Robert was eventually helped off the field, holding his arm tightly to his side, and did not return to the game.
Initial reports suggest that Robert may have suffered a shoulder dislocation or clavicle injury, though the team has not confirmed the exact nature or severity. He is currently undergoing further evaluation and imaging.
This injury is a significant concern for the White Sox, as Robert has been a key offensive and defensive force for the team. Known for his speed, power, and athleticism, he entered today’s game batting .312 with 8 home runs and 21 RBIs on the season.
Manager Pedro Grifol addressed the media briefly after the game: “It’s tough to see one of your leaders go down like that. We’re hoping for the best and will know more soon.”
