Gateshead have confirmed the signing of goalkeeper Tiernan Brooks as well as the double retainment of defenders Joe Grayson and Kenton Richardson, ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.
The trio will all continue to strengthen Rob Elliott’s side, even despite the double departure of Ed Francis to Exeter City and Marcus Dinanga to League Two new-boys Bromley yesterday (4th July).
However, the news that two important defenders as well as a new goalkeeper will be featuring for Gateshead next season will be a welcomed boost for the club’s supporters.
How did the trio fare last season?
Beginning with new signing Tiernan Brooks, he began the 2023/24 campaign on loan with League Of Ireland side Cork City, making four appearances before returning to the Magpies in January.
Upon his return, Brooks joined fellow National League side Rochdale for the remainder of the season, making 12 appearances under Jimmy McNulty and has now signed permanently with Gateshead.
Meanwhile, both Richardson and Grayson played crucial roles to help Gateshead secure a play-off spot as well as winning the FA Trophy at Wembley Stadium in May.
Grayson made 28 league appearances for Gateshead, contributing to two goals whilst Richardson played 39 times in the National League, also providing two goals.

Can Gateshead go one better next season?
Last season, Gateshead made the play-offs but were unable to compete in them due to an off-field related issue, but they did secure the FA Trophy following a penalty shootout victory against Solihull Moors.
Since the close season, Gateshead have lost several key players such as Ed Francis, Marcus Dinanga and loanee Dajaune Brown, but have finally begun to turn their fortunes around with four new signings joining the football club.
With Chesterfield and Bromley now in the EFL, Gateshead have an opportunity to try and seize their hopes of gaining promotion into the EFL and retaining two crucial players as well as adding a new goalkeeper will make their side a lot stronger and therefore bolster their promotion aspirations.
