For two upcoming big games, Rangers has been given permission to sell alcohol from a marquee. The pop-up tent will be open for the Scottish Premiership encounter against Celtic on January 2 and the Europa League fixture against Spurs on December 12.
The club was granted an occasional licence for alcohol to be served in the marquee in the Edmiston House car park at Ibrox Stadium.
As the application proceeded to the city’s licensing board, Police Scotland requested, among other things, that no more than four beverages be given to each individual during each transaction in the tent.
Lawyer Stephen McGowan, representing Rangers Football Club, said the club want to “enhance hospitality and the match day experience” for fans.
He told this morning’s licensing board that places in the marquee must be pre-booked with no walk-ins allowed and there is a 200 capacity limit.
Before and after the games, there is food available and a hospitality room with soft music.
In April, the tent was set up for an Old Firm match, which Mr. McGowan called a “success.”
During the match on April 7, Police Inspector Gareth Griffith attested that there were “no issues” pertaining to the tent.
Councillors sitting on the licensing board granted the occasional licence application.
