In a move that has sent shockwaves through Hoosier Nation, Indiana sophomore Malik Reneau has officially declared for the 2025 NBA Draft, becoming the first underclassman from the program to do so in over a decade. The 6’9” forward made the announcement via a heartfelt social media post, thanking his coaches, teammates, and fans for their support during his journey at IU.

Reneau’s decision marks a historic moment for Indiana basketball, a program known more for seasoned upperclassmen leading the charge than for early departures to the professional ranks. The last time an underclassman left Bloomington for the NBA was in 2013, when Victor Oladipo entered the draft after his junior year. Reneau, however, is breaking even more ground by making the leap as a sophomore.

“I’ve grown tremendously on and off the court during my time at Indiana,” Reneau wrote. “It’s been a dream to wear the cream and crimson, and now I’m ready to take the next step and pursue my dream of playing in the NBA.”

Reneau averaged 15.8 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 2.1 assists during the 2024–25 season, showcasing a versatile skillset that impressed scouts and analysts alike. His footwork in the post, improved perimeter shooting, and leadership on both ends of the court helped solidify his draft stock and position him as a potential late first-round or early second-round pick.

Indiana head coach Mike Woodson praised Reneau’s development, calling him “a cornerstone of our team” and “a fierce competitor who earned everything that’s coming his way.” Woodson also acknowledged the significance of Reneau’s decision, noting that it reflects the program’s growing ability to prepare players for the next level.

Reneau’s departure will leave a significant hole in Indiana’s frontcourt, but it also signals a shift in the program’s culture—one that embraces the modern realities of college basketball, where elite talent often doesn’t wait until senior year.

As for Reneau, the journey is just beginning. He will now begin preparations for pre-draft workouts and the NBA Combine, where he hopes to further boost his stock and prove he belongs among the game’s elite.

One thing is certain: Malik Reneau has already etched his name into Indiana basketball history. Now, he’s ready to take on the next chapter—and Hoosier fans will be watching closely, every step of the way.
