Barnsley boss Darrell Clarke has said they are in ‘ongoing talks’ over the future of Matthew Craig.
Barnsley have a decision to make on the Tottenham Hotspur loan man’s situation this winter ahead of the second-half of the campaign.
So far this season, Craig, 21, has made 15 appearances for the Tykes, 13 of which have been in League One.
“I’m in regular contact with Matty, he’s a great pro and a good lad, but he’s in an area of the pitch where there is serious competition for places,” their boss Clarke stated in the most recent update, according to a report by The Yorkshire Post. We have Matty Craig and Luca (Connell) as solid six (holding midfield) alternatives once he is healthy.
The players want to play games, therefore we’re in constant communication with them. At the beginning of January, we will evaluate that and determine our current situation.

“It’s been really good so far,” the young player told Barnsley’s website after connecting with them. I have inspected the grounds, which are stunning; this is a top-notch stadium. It has gone well; the folks I have spoken to so far have been really friendly.
Now what?
Whether Craig stays with the Tykes for the second part of this season will only become clear with time.
This weekend, Clarke’s team will play at home against Leyton Orient in an attempt to advance to the Championship.
