Rotherham United forward/winger Andre Green said Saturday’s game was ‘perfect’.
The twenty-six year old arrived at the New York Stadium in August 2023 and played in nine Championship games and one League Cup game – which is the best it got for him as, soon after, a training ground injury saw him end up with a ruptured Achilles tendon keeping him out of football for over a year.
He played the first half of the Trophy game last Tuesday and started his first league game since 7th October last year at the weekend. And what a game he had. When his name was read out before the game he was applauded by the Millers fans and went on to provide a brilliant cross for Jonson Clarke-Harris’ second goal of the afternoon then went on to score a goal of his own when the fans again welcomed him back.
Speaking to Radio Sheffield after the three-nil win at the weekend, Andre said, ‘I thoroughly enjoyed every moment out there.
‘A goal, an assist and then to be given Man of the Match was the perfect evening for me. I think I did three celebrations in two minutes and there was a lot of excitement in that moment. I ran to the boards then saw the fans who have been so patient with me and my one year old daughter was there as well which is the first time she’s seen me play.
‘I told the Gaffer I’d give him everything I had and I lasted seventy-one minutes and was happy to contribute what I did today and I can’t wait for more.
It’s been a really difficult time. A hamstring injury is three to four months and OK but to be out for fourteen months I’ve never experienced anything like that. The lads have been brilliant. I’ve just been grinding away every day , and I’ve just got to work on my fitness and sharpness now and I feel in this league I can give a lot.
‘We need to keep building, get more points and see where it gets us which will hopefully be in the top end of the table by the end of December going into January.’
Speaking as a fan I am so pleased to see Andre back.
