In what’s being hailed as a defining moment for Nebraska Cornhuskers football, lifelong fan and Nebraska native Rosalee Nagele has donated a staggering $10.8 million to Head Coach Matt Rhule and the university’s new stadium renovation project.
The monumental gift — one of the largest single fan donations in Nebraska Athletics history — is aimed at helping usher in a bold new era for Cornhuskers football. The funds will go directly toward the expansion and modernization of Memorial Stadium, part of a sweeping vision laid out by Coach Rhule to create a world-class environment for players, coaches, and fans alike.
“Nebraska pride lives within me wherever I go,” said Nagele in a heartfelt statement released by the university. “Coach Rhule represents everything we believe in — grit, tradition, and an unshakable commitment to the future. This is my way of giving back to the team that gave me so much joy over the years.”
Coach Rhule, clearly moved by the gesture, called Nagele’s contribution “transformational,” adding that her spirit embodies the very soul of Nebraska football.
“Rosalee’s generosity is a testament to the passion of Husker Nation. This gift isn’t just about bricks and seats — it’s about building a legacy,” said Rhule.
Nagele, 78, grew up in Grand Island and has attended nearly every home game for the past 50 years. Her donation will help fund key upgrades, including improved fan facilities, state-of-the-art training equipment, and community engagement spaces.
Athletic Director Trev Alberts also expressed his gratitude, calling the donation “a shining example of the bond between our program and the people of Nebraska.”
As the project breaks ground later this year, Rosalee Nagele’s name will be permanently honored within the stadium — a lasting tribute to a fan whose heart will forever beat in Husker red.
