Detroit, MI – May 13, 2025 — A shocking incident unfolded late Monday night at Ford Field, home of the Detroit Lions, where three football players were shot during what authorities described as a private, off-season event.
Detroit Police responded to reports of gunfire at the stadium around 10:45 p.m. Upon arrival, officers discovered three male victims suffering from gunshot wounds. All three individuals were identified as professional football players, although their names have not yet been officially released pending notification of their families.
According to preliminary reports, the shooting occurred in a restricted-access lounge area of the stadium, which had been rented out for a private gathering attended by several current and former players, along with invited guests. Security footage is currently being reviewed to identify suspects and determine how a firearm was brought into the venue.
Emergency medical personnel transported the victims to Henry Ford Hospital. As of this morning, two of the players are listed in stable condition, while one remains in critical but stable condition following surgery.
Detroit Police Chief Angela Martin held a brief press conference early Tuesday, calling the incident “deeply troubling” and confirming that the shooting does not appear to be a random act. “We are working closely with stadium security and NFL investigators. This was a targeted act, not an attack on the public
