ESPN has confirmed that the Montreal Canadiens have officially approved a massive $337 million renovation project for the Bell Centre, set to begin in early 2025. The plan, backed by team ownership and local government partners, will modernize the iconic arena with cutting-edge technology, expanded fan amenities, and sustainable infrastructure upgrades.
However, the project comes with one significant complication: the Canadiens may need to play a portion of their 2025–26 season at an alternate venue. Team officials are currently negotiating with the NHL and local partners to finalize a temporary home, with Laval’s Place Bell and Quebec City’s Videotron Centre among the leading contenders.
Team President Geoff Molson stated, “This investment is not just about upgrading a building – it’s about enhancing the entire game-day experience and reinforcing our commitment to staying in Montreal for generations.”
The renovations are expected to include upgraded seating, enhanced food and beverage options, expanded concourses, and advanced in-arena digital experiences. Construction is projected to be completed by the start of the 2026–27 season.
